How-to use Xwin32 to log into remote computers



Start -> Program files -> Xwin32 9.0 -> X-config:


Click on Wizard to make and store a new session; select a descriptional name and always use SSH as connection type:


Enter the full name of the host:


Leave the Login and Password fields open:


Select the appropriate operating system in the bottom field: IBM-AIX for petrus and petra.ivt.ntnu.no, and Linux for iptow, promax, iptibm1 and seis. This will automatically fill in the first field correctly. Finally click on Finish and your session is stored.

This sequence only have to be done once for each remote computer.

To login, open X-config, click on the computer you want to log into and then click on Launch. It may take a few seconds before a login window shows up. The first time you launch a login session you will get a question about license; click on Floating License and in the next window fill in this license key:

You may also use this software on your own PC: Connect to progdist, go to Campus and then X-win32. Install version 9.0 and use the license key above when asked for it. This software is limited to the NTNU network - if you're outside you have to connect through VPN.
