==== Xwin32 ====

Xwin32 is used to connect to Unix/Linux servers and displaying windows.

**Where**\\ 
Xwin32 is installed on all student PCs.\\ You may also use this software on your own PC:  go to this
[[https://i.ntnu.no/studentprogramvare#english|page]], select select software.ntnu.no and log in (outside the NTNU network you have to use [[programs:vpn|VPN]]). This software is limited to the NTNU network - if you're outside you have to connect through [[programs:vpn|VPN]].  

**How to use**\\ 
Start -> Program files -> X-win32 201x -> X-config:\\

If you already have created a session, select it and then click on Launch. If not, 
click on **Wizard** to make a new session; select a descriptional name and always use SSH as connection type. The following is an example on how to connect to [[hardware:petra|petra]]. For our other servers, replace the values in the example with those in this table:

Enter the full name of the **host**, for example:\\

Leave the Login and Password fields open:\\

Select **Linux XTERM** in the bottom field: this will automatically fill in the first field correctly. (If you want a larger font: "/usr/bin/xterm -ls -fa monaco -fs 13" or
"/usr/bin/xterm -ls -fn -*-fixed-medium-*-*-*-20-*-*-*-*-*-*-*"). Finally click on **Finish** and your session is stored.\\

This sequence only have to be done once for each remote computer. 

To login, open X-config, click on the computer you want to log into and then click on **Launch**.

It may take a few seconds before a login window shows up. Answer Yes if you get a question about "SSH - Host Key Verification". The first time you launch a login session you will get a question about **license** (it may be hidden behind other windows); select License Server and fill in the license info below. If you don't get a question about license, click on the up-arrow in the taskbar, rightclick the small X-icon and select Help and Activate License. Select License Server and fill in the license info below. Failing to add a license will leave you with a 30 min. demo license.
