Masterlandsbyen 2006 - Tasks

The following two links are introductions to Gullfaks and Increased Oil Recovery. Even though both are in Norwegian you may find some informative figures about Gullfaks.
Gullfaks introduction (Norwegian, 95 MB)
IOR introduction (Norwegian, 3 MB)

1. Multilateral wells on Gullfaks satellites - Statfjord formation
Complex reservoir with low recovery - the goal is 18%. Smart wells and multilaterals (MLT) will increase drainage points and recovery. See powerpoint presentation for more info.
Powerpoint presentation (slide 1-8, English, 3 MB)

2. Development of small satellite fields
Segments N0 and N1 will be developed - see powerpoint presentation for more info. Problem:
  • Estimate reserves and production profiles.
  • Number of wells, production challenges.
  • Uncertainties and economy.

  • Powerpoint presentation (slide 9-14, English/Norwegian, 3 MB)

    3. Gel to reduce water cut
See powerpoint presentation for more info. Questions:
  • Types of gel.
  • Reinjection and environmental aspects.
  • Water cut, permeability, zonal reservoirs.
  • Injection volume.
  • Find a suitable injection well (new or existing).
  • Uncertainties and economy.

  • Powerpoint presentation (slide 15-22, English/Norwegian, 3 MB)

    4. IOR by producing the Lunde formation
The Lunde formation is continental/fluvial deposits, an alternating sand-shale system where the channel sands have low connectivity and often small lateral sizes. The channel sands are good reservoirs with mobile and high water saturations. Production tests has been run showing 90% water.

Problem - How to drain this reservoir and with which technology:
  • Estimate volumes (Statoil's estimate is 25 MRm3).
  • Drainage mechanism and recovery factor.
  • Can water be reinjected by using down-hole separation?
  • Zonal isolation, scrams, diacs, multiwells, TTRD, monobore, ..
  • Economy and uncertainties.

  • Powerpoint presentation (Norwegian, 1 MB)

    5. AVO response
Prof. Martin Landrø will present this task on monday 11th september.
Powerpoint presentation (slide 1-7, English, 3 MB)

    6. Cook formation - How much does geological setting affect seismic response?
Prof. Martin Landrø will present this task on monday 11th september.
Powerpoint presentation (slide 8-10, English, 3 MB)

    7. Smart well C-43T2
This well has a DIACS (Downhole Instrumentation and Control System) completion with downhole valves controlling the production from two zones.
    Problem:
  • Use existing Eclipse model to history match the two year production to find the production from the two zones.
  • Run predictions to decide future production while opening/closing the valves.
  • Based on simulations and real costs, calculate net present value for the well.

  • Powerpoint presentation (slide 1-11, Norwegian, 24 MB)

    8. Tenside flooding in the I1 segment
This segment is isolated from the rest of the field and it has three production wells and one injection well. All three production wells have water breakthrough. The injector is the only source of pressure maintenance. Gas injection has been tried with variable results - will water/tenside injection work? You should do a literature search on tensides looking for surface tension, relperm and adsorption. Use these data as input to the Eclipse model to see if tensides can increase oil recovery. Also look at economy and uncertainty.
Powerpoint presentation (slide 12-19, Norwegian, 24 MB)

    9. FAWAG in the Statfjord formation
The J-segments are a separate drainage area with massive water flooding. The recovery is 69%. There are two production wells with water cut above 90%, and one injector. Investigate if FAWAG (Foam Assisted Water Alternating Gas) can increase recovery:
  • Will sweep effiency increase?
  • Lower residual oil saturation?
  • Simulation: Stars, fenomenological model, field model.
  • Other ideas?

    10. Gullfaks - screening of IOR methods
