Proceedings

15 - 16 May 2001, Trondheim, Norway

Foreword by the Chairman

"Contributions from East to West"

During the Symposium, 25 papers were presented. On the left, Ms J. Frolova from Moscow State University, Russia, talking on changes in petrophysical rock properties over long periods; to the right, Mr T. Plona, Schlumberger, USA, on sonic developments. Participants, in a nice mix between industry and university background, came from some 15 different countries, following the tradition of the previous Symposiums: exchange of ideas and cooperation between individuals, organisations, and countries.

The proceedings are a collection of the presented papers, covering a wide range from the petroleum business, via environmental aspects, to the traditional geological community, with the main emphasis on petroleum related questions. I hope you will enjoy the proceedings and that you will find something new and interesting.

I would like to thank the Organising Committee and Hanne-Marit Pettersen at Nordic Energy Research for making the symposium possible, and the contributing authors and participants – without you there would be no Symposium! I am grateful to NTNU for providing the Symposium venue and to Trondheim for the atmosphere and nice weather. And finally, the Symposium would not be possible without the support from the Nordic Energy Research Programme.

I hope you enjoyed the Symposium as much as I did – Thank you all for making the Symposium a success!

Ton Loermans
